Receiving Less and Paying More for Health Benefits
T-Horizons, LLC can trace its roots back to 1999 when Vincent DiLorenzo, DDS and Andrea Brockman, DDS then incorporated as Valley Green Center for Holistic Dentistry first changed over their personal health insurance to a Medical Savings Account. Paying for their employees and their own family health insurance, they felt they were at the mercy of continually rising premiums with fewer benefits and more out-of-pocket expenses. And they were very healthy! They rarely used the services of medical doctors, never needed prescribed medications, but wanted hospitalization coverage and a choice of health practitioners. They recognized the benefits of this new high-deductible health insurance plan coupled with a Health Savings Account: a health insurance plan that saved them over $10,000 a year in premiums just for their family alone.
Paying Less and Receiving More Healthy Benefits
It worked beautifully for their personal health expenditures, using the tax deductible health savings account to pay for services from their chiropractor, acupuncturist, optometrist, and integrative physicians. And these dentists found an added bonus if their patients also had a Medical or Health Savings Account: their dental expenses were covered without having to submit claims.
Agents, Agents, Everywhere...But Not a One to Link to an HSA
As luck would have it, it was difficult to find insurance agents who knew anything about Health Savings Accounts. As the doctors discovered, agents had little incentive to sell this insurance since the premiums were half of traditional premiums and therefore half the commission for the agent. Dr. Brockman and Dr. DiLorenzo knew, without a doubt, however, that this relatively unknown insurance filled an important need in the weakening health care system. They did their own research, went to seminars, and recruited knowledgeable people to handle their insurance requests.
Freedom of Health Choices Preserved
Ironically the Federal Government introduced Health Savings Accounts in 2003 which coincided with Drs. Brockman’s and DiLorenzo’s retirement from their dental practice. They still uphold that this type of insurance does a great deal for responsible health decisions. They created T-Horizons, LLC to help health-diligent consumers with the awareness and means to pay for their freedom of health choices.
Today, Drs. Brockman and DiLorenzo continue to add the consumer directed health expertise of agents throughout the country. Their aim is to provide individuals, health care providers, and small business employers the strategies and solutions for health improvement and lowering health care costs.
